Monopole antennas are the simplest form of antenna. They are simply one piece of wire. The traditional antenna on a car is an example of a monopole antenna. Typically, when connecting to a monopole, the receiver or transmitter is connected to the antenna and the ground lead is connected to ground. Monopoles are used with a ground plane. The ground plane acts as a mirror which allows monopole antennas to look like virtual dipole antennas. |
