Ultra High Frequency

Ultra high frequency is any radio transmission between 300MHz and 3000MHz. UHF has a shorter wavelength than [VHF] thus smaller antennas are needed to effectively transmit or receive UHF broadcasts. In the US, analog TV channels 14-69 are broadcast in the UHF spectrum. Channels 14-20 are in the range 470MHz – 512 MHz. Channels 21-51 are from 512MHz – 698 MHz. Channels 51-69 are 698MHz – 806 MHz. The spectrum used by channels 51-69 are being reapportioned for non-television purposes on February 17, 2009. The FCC has decided to reuse this spectrum for other purposes and much of that spectrum has been auctioned off. After the digital TV transition which occurs on February 17, 2009, this spectrum will no longer hold television channels.
